Sky Sports have had a Bruno Martins Indi nightmare over the past week.
Their sources have led them on a merry dance, first with the claim that Martins Indi would have a Stoke medical on Wednesday, and then stating on Friday the defender was heading to Selhurst Park after Crystal Palace agreed a deal.
As the Portuguese press have had to repeatedly point out, both stories were incorrect. On the Crystal Palace claim, O Jogo said it ‘does not correspond to the truth’, and whilst there’s interest and a deal is possible, it was no further along on Saturday.
Sunday’s edition of A Bola underlines that Martins Indi isn’t on the verge of joining Stoke, Crystal Palace, or any other English club, because he’s flown to Mexico with Porto.
Porto are spending part of their preseason in Mexico, and Martins Indi was part of the travelling group.
The Portuguese club clearly wouldn’t fly the defender out to Mexico if a deal was agreed to sell him, or if a Stoke or Crystal Palace move was imminent.
Claims from France that Stoke are close to a deal for Kurt Zouma could signal that Mark Hughes has moved on from Martins Indi.
