After some rumours Rangers are in negotiations to bring midfielder Carlos ‘Gullit’ Peña to Ibrox, claims from Mexico suggest that a deal for the player is done.
According to Rubén Rodriguez from Fox Sports, the 27-year-old is indeed moving to Scotland after being bought by Rangers. The player would be arriving as a personal ask of manager Pedro Caixinha.
Caixinha has never been Peña’s boss, but was his opponent when the manager worked in Mexico, at Santos Laguna between 2013 and 2015.
Peña currently plays for León, but his rights actually belong to Deportivo Gualajara, who would be getting the fee from Rangers.
He was a León player for years, and sold to Guadalajara last summer for €7.3m. The problem is he didn’t settle in well at the club, so was sent back to León on a one-year loan.
Other Mexican outlets have all bought the story and fans have even changed the player’s Wikipedia entry already. They’re all just waiting for an official confirmation from Caixinha and the Scottish Premiership club.
