Groningen have confirmed on their official website that they’ve today received an offer for Mimoun Mahi from an unnamed Championship side.
The Dutch winger has been linked with a move to Swansea City in the last couple of hours, as the Premier League side look to get a last-minute deal done for the player.
A spokesperson for Groningen has revealed a third bid has come from an English club, who are believed to be in the Championship. The Dutch club have confirmed Mahi will remain at the club for the second half of the season because the winger is an important member of the team.
“Tonight a third bid has reached us from a relevant English club. We are pleased to say we will be keeping Mahi so he can succeed at Groningen. We want him for the second half of the season in order to meet our sporting ambitions, and Mimoun Mahi will play an important role,” said a spokesperson for the Dutch club.
Earlier today we covered reports from the Star Hotel in Milan Swansea City were showing a strong interest in Mahi. It was claimed Swansea City could look to land the player before tonight’s deadline, but is seems the he will be remaining in the Netherlands.
By referring to a Championship club, Groningen aren’t referring to Swansea City. Well, not yet anyway.
