On Wednesday evening, FC Porto put out a statement covering the financial aspects of Fabio Silva’s transfer to Wolves. Portuguese clubs have to do this for every transfer, so there was nothing remarkable in the act.

What was out of the ordinary was the commission paid. From the €40m transfer fee, Jorge Mendes’ Gestifute agency will receive €7m, and STV, another agency, are getting €3m.

According to various claims in the Portuguese media, the reasoning is that each agency negotiated a separate renewal for Silva over the past year, and agreed to defer their payment for a larger chunk of the eventual transfer fee.

Mendes and Wolves have done a lot of business together, and agency fees won’t be of great concern to supporters. Another deal could be arranged at the weekend.

Faouzi Ghoulam is trying to free himself from his Napoli contract, so he can sign for Wolves, and Corriere del Mezzogiorno report the possibility of a meeting with Mendes on Sunday.

Napoli are playing a friendly against Sporting at the weekend, and the suggestion is the Lisbon trip could coincide with further Mendes talks, aiming to resolve Ghoulam’s situation so he can move to Wolves.

One issue, although it’s not covered by the newspaper, is Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis testing positive for Covid-19. Clearly, he won’t be able to travel to Lisbon, so someone else would have to meet Mendes on his behalf.
