At Sport Witness, we like to think that, over the years, we’ve developed a sixth sense when it comes to transfer rumours.
Patterns appear, such as Manchester United being used by agents to get their client a better contract, and there’s a new one that has started to emerge: Wolves being linked with Jorge Mendes clients.
After all, that isn’t surprising, since the super agent has been actively helping the Championship side get some great deals, like a certain Ruben Neves, yet there’s also a good chance he could end up getting a bit greedy and offloading some of his, how do we say this, underperforming players.
This particular rumour hasn’t exactly started yet, but we decided to get ahead of the curve and are warning you: don’t be surprised if you see Wolverhampton Wanderers get linked with Gil Dias and Bruno Gaspar in the summer.
The pair, currently at Fiorentina, were sent to Italy by the Portuguese agent last summer, but haven’t set the world alight.
Signed by Monaco in 2015, Dias is currently with the Serie A club on a two-year loan with a view to buy at €20m, while Gaspar was transferred permanently from Vitoria Guimaraes last summer for €4.5m.
Calciomercato in Italy are suggesting there’s a good chance Fiorentina will look to somehow get rid of the duo, with Dias, described as ‘excelling in wasting counter-attacks and in his numerous failed dribbles’, returning to Monaco and Bruno Gaspar going somewhere on loan.
The Serie A side are aware they might struggle to recoup their €4.5m, although if Mendes is involved, nothing is impossible.
Wolverhampton aren’t exactly poor, and if they need more experience in depth down the right than Phil Ofosu-Ayeh to help Matt Doherty, then don’t be surprised if a certain someone comes knocking on Nuno Espirito Santo’s door in the summer claiming to have the “bargain of the century” ready for him.
