Dutch newspaper AD have a positive Memphis Depay article on Tuesday. The Manchester United player scored 2 goals for his country against Luxembourg in a 3-1 win at the weekend but it didn’t bring universal praise.
There were still some in Dutch football strangely excited to point out the player’s goal celebrations were a little weird, and that he probably didn’t play as well he’ll be left thinking he did.
AD see it another way and believe Depay is hugely eager to get his career back on track. They point out there aren’t any negative stories about the player’s private life, therefore those still choosing to take that line are doing so without any basis.
Everton interest has been increasingly reported over the past couple of weeks, with manager Ronald Koeman making no secret of his admiration for the footballer.
AD sound very keen on the prospect and say a transfer to Everton would be the ‘ideal solution’. It’s pointed out Koeman ‘truly believes’ in the player, and would be willing to take him on loan in January for the rest of the season.
A rental period also suits Depay, say AD, and the footballer agrees on that with his advisors. The Dutch newspaper adds: ‘The attacker realises that his chances under United manager Jose Mourinho are nil, but would not take a hasty decision at this important stage of his career.’
It’s even pointed out that Liverpool is so close to Manchester there’d be no need to find new accommodation, and Depay wouldn’t be dropping down to an inferior league. Get the paperwork sorted!
The idea is gaining momentum in the Netherlands and may well be one which comes to fruition, it’s got to be better for Depay than wondering if he’s getting in the Manchester United match-day squad from week to week.
