Following yesterday’s news from Il Tempo that Sofiane Feghouli had told West Ham he intended to accept Roma’s offer for his services, the Hammers have put their foot down a bit.
This could, in part, due to the fact Slaven Bilic has finally found a use for the player, who took some time to adapt to the Premier League, coming in on a free from Valencia in La Liga.
However, pride probably has a lot to do with it, as adding a Feghouli departure to the likely exits of both Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri this month would show how bad the club’s summer recruitment actually was.
Il Messaggero on Monday explained that West Ham wanted money up front for the loan with a view to buy, something Roma weren’t particularly keen on, and Il Tempo on Tuesday have an update on the situation.
The Italian newspaper claim that Roma are expected to make another push ‘in the coming days’ for the Algeria international in a bid to convince West Ham to accept the loan with a purchase option with no fee up front.
It’s going to have to be very convincing indeed, and Feghouli is probably going to have to kick up a fuss at this rate.
Still, there’s 20-odd days left in this window, and a lot can happen between now and the end of the month.
