On Monday, we relayed a couple of stories from Italy regarding Inter’s interest in a pair of Manchester City defenders.

Both Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala have jumped to the top of Luciano Spalletti’s list of desirables, with the full knowledge that one transfer would be far easier to pull off than the other.

Of course, the Argentinean is the difficult one, with Pep Guardiola seemingly a big enough fan of his abilities to make him a first-team regular, and Gazzetta dello Sport, who report the story, explain the only this would ever happen is if an opening was presented by either the Spaniard or the player himself.

Considering either of those scenarios seem unlikely, the focus could easily turn to the France international, who, while on the bench against Brighton, is most certainly further down the pecking order than his teammate.

The Italian newspaper report a meeting is set to take place today at some point between the two sides to discuss a possible transfer, and reckon the likeliest move will be a loan with a €15m view to buy offer for Mangala.

Spalletti is said to be looking for a defender with different characteristics than the two centre-backs he already has at his disposal (Milan Skriniar and Miranda), and would be pleased if the negotiations could be rather quick, considering the start of the Serie A season is just around the corner.

If the meeting between Manchester City and Inter is positive, then we wouldn’t be surprised if this took very little time to come to a happy conclusions for all parties.
