Estimated as being too expensive for Barcelona, having just arrived at Everton at the beginning of the season, Ronald Koeman remains a target for his former club to replace the departing Luis Enrique in the summer.

An icon at the club, having scored the winner in the 1992 Champions League final, the former Dutch midfielder is among a shortlist of five names the La Liga side are looking at.

With claims Barcelona would have to pay around €8m to convince Everton to let Koeman leave Goodison Park, the ex-Southampton manager is still named as one of the outsiders, but remains in the mix.

To decide on Luis Enrique’s successor, AS report that a panel comprised of most of the important members of the Barcelona board is expected to meet before in coming days, with the decision to be taken soon after.

The club are looking for someone loyal, who plays a football similar to the Barcelona DNA, as well as being capable of projecting a positive image to the press and manage a difficult dressing room.

If they can have spent some time at Barcelona in the past, too, that counts as an extra point.

Koeman certainly ticks a lot of those boxes, but with the likes of Ernesto Valverde and Juan Carlos Unzué in pole position, we’re still confident the La Liga side will leave the Everton manager alone for now.
