Everton midfielder Amadou Onana has sent a ‘wink’ to Barcelona ahead of the summer, by following them on social media.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who cover the player again and make something out of nothing in their continued efforts to build up a transfer saga around him.
The newspaper explains that the Everton midfielder has ‘shown interest’ in Barcelona by adding them to the short list of clubs he follows on social media, which at this point only includes Everton, Lille and Barcelona.
They argue that this can be seen as a ‘wink’ to the Catalan club and a suggestion that he likes Barcelona and La Masia. He follows both the club and La Masia on Instagram alongside Everton and Lille but doesn’t follow any other football clubs.
The newspaper is very much taking that as a sign Onana wants Barcelona above all else, with the growing belief he will be leaving Goodison Park in the summer.
The reality, though, is that it’s currently wishful thinking on their part. Everton may have a need to sell but won’t do so on the cheap, nor as part of any deal that will include players.
That simply doesn’t work for a club who desperately need to register big profits on the books and know Onana is a very saleable asset after his two years there.
Given Barcelona’s finances, and that Mundo Deportivo admit Onana is out of their price range too, it seems hard for a deal to happen this summer.
That’s not stopping the newspaper, and indeed their Catalan counterparts, from trying to build something from nothing, though, and this latest suggestion of any ‘wink’ from Onana is the latest in that.
