On June 10th, Las Provincias stated Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers are keeping tabs on UD Las Palmas youngster Alberto Moleiro.
A month later, we carried a report from Mundo Deportivo, who explained the Premier League winners have joined Barcelona in chasing the 18-year-old.
It was also explained Manchester City must overcome firm competition from the Catalan club if they want the attacking midfielder. He is still with his current employer since no deal took shape in the last window.
The Spain U19 international came up through the ranks of the Segunda División side’s youth set up and made it to their first team in August 2021. Since then, he has been a regular for Las Palmas.
Moleiro had his first summer window as a professional footballer and was asked to share his views on it during an interview with Marca.
“We finished the playoff against Tenerife and I remember that in the following two weeks news about Barça or other teams began to sound. I stand aside and let my agents take [care of] it,” he said.
“I was getting information little by little, but I was very calm. My parents, not so much, because they read a lot of things and didn’t know anything. Being my first summer at a professional level, it was a bit of a shock, but now I’m calm. I have signed four years with Las Palmas and I am very happy.”
Manchester City got a mention in the interview as Marca asked the talented youngster what it means to him to read reports that Pep Guardiola’s side and Barcelona ‘love’ him.
The teenager explained, “I don’t believe it when I see it, really. I think it’s fake news, but it’s true that little by little you believe it and that means you’re doing things right. You have to follow the same path.”
On the type of club, he wants to see himself at in the future, Moleiro said: “I see myself in teams that play with the ball because without the ball I suffer. I can also play without the ball, but it costs me a little more and I think the ideal would be teams where they like to play, I get along well there.”
