Maurizio Sarri has already made it clear that he wants a new job before January, before being linked with a move to Everton.
Earlier this month, the Italian manager told Gazzetta dello Sport that he was ready to return as soon as possible and his comments in that interview should have Everton fans very interested.
We covered a report today that stated he was being eyed up for the manager’s job at Goodison Park by the Friedkin Group, who are set to complete a takeover of Everton in the coming months.
They reached an agreement with Farhad Moshiri for his shares earlier this week and are now progressing in a deal to buy the Toffees, which should be given approval late this year if all goes to plan.
Should they arrive on Merseyside as expected, big changes could be in the pipeline and that may include a change in manager.
Pressure has been mounting on Sean Dyche after a difficult start to the season and with his contract up at the end of the season and new owners rarely keeping the manager they inherit, a change on the touchline would make sense.
The Friedkins have already shown a ruthlessness on that front too, recently firing Daniele de Rossi, a Roma hero, despite handing him an extended contract in the summer.
Sarri is the current name being linked heavily in the Italian media and he’s ready to jump in if his comments earlier this month are anything to go by.
“I hope before January,” he said when asked if he’s waiting until next summer for his next job.
“It will depend on the situations, the offers I receive, the motivations. From the phone call that will give me more adrenaline.
“I don’t see myself at the last dance! I still want to coach, and I think I’m in a position to give something.
“It’s true that young people are in fashion at the moment, but last year the three European cups were won by coaches my age: Ancelotti in the Champions League, Gasperini in the Europa League and Mendilibar in the Conference. Ditto De la Fuente, coach of the Spain team that won the European championship.”
