For the past few days the Catalan media have been understandably obsessed with who is set to take over from Luis Enrique at Barcelona. Mauricio Pochettino has hardly got a mention, indeed in the vast majority of Catalan reports the Tottenham manager isn’t mentioned at all.
It’s been a different story in Italy, where it’s been insisted repeatedly that Pochettino is in pole position to take the Barcelona job and was set for talks with the club soon.
Of course, the Catalan media are almost certainly the better informed on who is going to be Barcelona’s next manager. Even more widely in Spain Pochettino has been largely ignored when lists of potential replacements are drawn up, but AS change that on Saturday.
The Spanish newspaper claim that, outside of the continually repeated options, Pochettino and Marseille manager Rudi Garcia are two coaches coming under serious consideration.
It’s claimed that Pochettino is waiting a telephone call over the next few weeks about the Barcelona job, as everyone tries to remain patient. AS say that regardless of what Pochettino says in public, privately there’d certainly be an interest in the Barcelona job.
Again, there doesn’t appear to be a great deal of worry here for Tottenham. There are several targets much more strongly linked than the Spurs manager.
