Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has insisted it is only a matter of time before they click into gear and start to prove their doubters wrong.
The goalkeeper has been speaking to EFE in Spain, relayed by Mundo Deportivo, regarding the situation at Chelsea following their win over his former club Brighton.
The Spanish keeper made the move to Chelsea in the summer after months of speculation about his future with the Seagulls.
He had found himself out of the picture under Roberto de Zerbi last season, with the Italian preferring Jason Steele and being rewarded for that faith by the goalkeeper’s impressive displays.
The arrival of Bart Verbruggen pushed him further down the pecking order and he eventually moved to Chelsea, who needed a new goalkeeper to cover the departures of Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga.
He’s been the Blues number one since but, like the rest of the squad, has found himself coming in for criticism amid a slow start to the season under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.
The win over Brighton in the cup was therefore an important one to alleviate some of that pressure and Sanchez insists there is more to come.
“I knew I was going to end up somewhere playing,” he said.
“I came here one hundred percent, and it was going to be my final decision. I’m happy with the team, happy with the coach, he has a lot of confidence in me and now I have to do my best.
“The statistics are very good, the team is not conceding much, and the team is arriving, but we need to define, we are trying, and it will come. It is a matter of time.”
