Aston Villa manager Unai Emery may have been handed his first blow of the summer transfer window, with Marco Asensio set to turn down a move and join PSG instead.

That’s according to AS, who say the Spaniard is ‘very close’ to agreeing a deal with the Parisian giants ahead of leaving Real Madrid.

Aston Villa have been pushing for Asensio’s signature for most of this week, with Unai Emery believed to have made him a serious offer to leave Real Madrid for Villa Park this summer.

Several reports had put Aston Villa at the front of the queue and a report earlier today insisted that he was close to agreeing to the move.

However, it seems that now won’t be happening, with AS reporting that he is instead ‘one step away’ from joining PSG instead.

According to the newspaper’s information, unless there is a dramatic late turnaround in negotiations, Asensio will be joining the French side in the coming weeks.

AS report that he does indeed have important offers from the Premier League and Aston Villa are one of the sides who have been ‘bidding hardest’ for his signature but the project at PSG and the efforts they’ve gone to in order to sign him have convinced him that they should be his next club.
