On Thursday, Expressen stated Rangers have informed Hammarby IF of their desire to buy Nathaniel Adjei in the summer window. It was also said Philippe Clement’s side are set to make an offer for him in a short time.
The 21-year-old spent the second half of the recently concluded season at FC Lorient on loan with a buying option.
It was stated yesterday that the French club have decided not to exercise the purchase option after their relegation from Ligue 1, allowing Rangers and Anderlecht to make an approach for the defender.
Rangers and Anderlecht have both communicated to the Swedish club that they are ‘ready to bid’ for the Ghana U23 international.
It’s claimed the ‘situation reversed’ on Thursday evening when Lorient decided to buy the centre-back by activating the SEK 65m [€4.8m] purchase option. The report says this means that Adjei ‘turns down’ Philippe Clement’s side and Anderlecht.
Adjei’s agent Tony Appiah has confirmed his client’s impending move to Lorient.
“Only formalities remain. Nathaniel Adjei will play for Lorient,” he said.
This is a blow for Philippe Clement and Rangers as they were keen to bring the player to Ibrox.
