Martina Fernandez moved from Barcelona to Everton in early January of this year, on a loan switch from the Catalan giants.

The plan was for the 20-year-old to get more minutes than she would have otherwise done at Barcelona. Since then it really couldn’t have gone much better for Martina, with her an ever-present for Everton and performing well for the Merseyside club.

Catalan newspaper Sport cover her situation and make it clear how thrilled Barcelona are with the results of the loan. It’s explained there was shock at the time of the deal being agreed with Everton, because the defender had been suffering from a knee injury and hadn’t had many minutes since returning.

It had been decided between Martina and Barcelona that she needed to go and get elite experience, rather than dropping down to the B team to get minutes.

Barcelona coaching staff and directors are described as being ‘delighted’ with the results of the loan and the player’s physical progress, and it’s thought she could be in the first team under Pere Romeu next season.

For Everton, it sounds like there’s little chance of keeping Martina Fernandez around.
