Over the past couple of weeks or so there have been repeat reports in the Portuguese media about Everton and William Carvalho.

The club have been linked with the Sporting midfielder at various points, but things have become stronger with Marco Silva taking over.

A Bola claimed last week that Marcel Brands had put the idea of signing Carvalho over to Silva, and the former Sporting manager backed it up.

The midfielder’s agent Pere Guardiola was said to be in constant contact with Brands, and the chances of a transfer were talked up by more than one Portuguese source.

It was made clear that Everton, who were also presented as being interested in Bas Dost, wanted to do a ‘clean’ transfer, so not try and take advantage of the midfielder rescinding his contract.

Well, now things have moved on. Record reports Carvalho, Gelson Martins and Bruno Fernandes have all now sent letters of termination, dismayed with the failure of president Bruno de Carvalho to resign after hooligans attacked players.

This would be a tricky situation for Everton, and it may be better trying to get a cheap deal than a free transfer.
