As Marcelo Bielsa continues to have a very careful decision making process regarding his next job after leaving Leeds United, the Argentine boss seems to have rejected another club.
As reported by Argentine journalist Veronica Brunati, the 67-year-old has turned down the chance of taking charge of River Plate, which would have been a huge opportunity.
Club boss Marcelo Gallardo recently announced his departure from the Millonario after eight years in the job, and according to the story, the board already made contact with Bielsa.
The former Leeds United boss, however, had a good reason to reject the offer. That’s his love and respect for Newell’s Old Boys, the club for whom he played, and where he started his career as a manager.
“I could not manage a team in Argentina that is going to compete against my team in a stadium that bears my name,” Bielsa reportedly said.
Bielsa has been approached by several clubs since his departure from Leeds in February this year. He recently held talks with Brazilian giants Santos, but with no agreement, clubs continue to attempt his signing.
It was recently reported that three other sides had come forward, none of them from South America, and the manager would continue to make a deep study of offers before deciding his next job.
