Burnley made an offer to former Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa, but the Argentine coach sent a firm rejection to the proposal.
That’s according to El Destape, who cover Bielsa’s ‘uncertain future’ in the game as he ponders his next move following his departure from Elland Road at the end of February.
Bielsa’s four-year stint with Leeds was brought to an end with the club in the middle of a poor run of form and fighting to stay in the Premier League.
It was a sorry end to the Argentine’s time in Yorkshire, where he had established himself as an icon with Leeds’ fanbase by taking them back to the top flight after a 16-year-absence.
They explain that Bielsa has ‘received several offers’ in the two months since he was sacked, but these have all failed to convince him, with the 66-year-old yet to decide his future in the game.
One of the first clubs to move for him was Valencia, but he is yet to respond to that offer from the Spanish side.
Then came along ‘the humble’ Burnley, who wanted to hire him at the end of April after sacking Sean Dyche but were given a definitive no.
The reason for that rejection isn’t mentioned, just that Bielsa wasn’t particularly keen on moving to Turf Moor.
Perhaps that’s out of loyalty to Leeds, or he doesn’t fancy another relegation battle at this point, but either way, it seems the Clarets will have to look elsewhere if they don’t decide to give the job to Mike Jackson full time.
