Marcel Brands could be set for an immediate return to football after his departure from Everton, with the KNVB likely to have him among their top targets.
That’s according to Voetbal International, who explain that the former Everton Director of Football is sure to be among the candidates for the soon to be vacant director of football position.
That role is currently held by Nico-Jan Hoogma, but he is quitting the position in two months time, leaving the KNVB with a position to fill.
They want someone with ‘extensive experience’ in elite football who doesn’t want to be a coach and whom everyone thinks is a ‘logical’ appointment.
Brands fits all of those requirements and so is likely to be ‘high on the list’ of options for those in charge of the Netherlands football setup.
He has a ‘wealth of experience’ in both domestic and international football and would be ‘willing’ to make the move following his departure from Everton.
His appointment is logical, then, and there’s a feeling the KNVB don’t ‘have to look far’ for Jan Hoogma’s successor as Brands ‘meets all the requirements’ they have set out.
