It’s not been ten days since Marcel Brands parted ways with Everton, and the Dutchman has already been linked with two new roles in the Netherlands.
Last week we covered claims that Brands could take up a role with the Dutch national football association, overseeing the national teams and general development of football in the country.
Despite his struggles at Everton, it’s clear Brands’ reputation hasn’t been harmed much in his own country. Dutch media reports have repeatedly explained that he wasn’t allowed enough power at the Premier League club, and the situation became more apparent when Rafael Benitez arrived.
The Spaniard wanted control over transfers, and won the Everton power struggle, which inevitably ended with the director leaving. The Toffees haven’t seen their clouds disappear, and now further pressure is building on Benitez.
Brands will be enjoying some time off, although it may not last long. Feyenoord insiders, FeyenoordTM, say that he’s the main candidate to take over should Frank Arnesen not extend his contract with the Eredivisie club.
A decision on that would likely be made at the beginning of the year, giving Brands another potential opportunity.
