Liverpool beating Manchester United 7-0 on Sunday is of course the biggest football story in the UK right now and will be for a few days.
Erik ten Hag’s side performed reasonably well in the first half and will have likely felt unfortunate to go in 1-0 down at half time. What happened in the second half is something that will go down in football history.
Manchester United completely fell to pieces, as Jurgen Klopp’s men took advantage of every opportunity offered to them. That they scored seven goals from eight shots on target shows just how ruthless they were when given the chance to punish their Premier League rivals.
Across Europe the match has of course been covered, with Dutch newspaper AD calling the result ‘shameful’ but pointing out United can get back on track quickly.
It’s unusual for European newspapers to provide player ratings for Premier League matches, but Marca have obliged, and it’s not pretty for Manchester United.
Firstly, the top rating of 3 stars, Jurgen Klopp, Andrew Robertson, Mohamed Salah, Harvey Elliott, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez all get it.
The rest are 2 stars, apart from the substitutes.
Not one Manchester United player got more than 1 star, indeed only Casemiro, Antony, Tyrell Malacia, Fred and Marcus Rashford got that… with every other player, and manager Erik ten Hag, being given a zero rating.
