Tottenham Hotspur’s lack of spending so far this summer is of course a topic of conversation among the club’s supporters, but it’s also getting attention in Spain.
Mauricio Pochettino and Spurs received a great deal of goodwill last season, and previously, for their slightly different Premier League approach and the club’s climb to fight at the top level of English football.
There’s been some excitement to see what will happen to Pochettino’s Tottenham as they spend a season at Wembley, ahead of returning to own old/new ground.
Wednesday’s edition of Marca points out it’s going to be hard, due to a lack of spending. The Spanish newspaper report that of all the 20 clubs to have finished in the top four in Europe’s top five leagues, Spurs are the only non spenders.
Financial pressures of the new stadium are of course mentioned, but Marca have some hope that Tottenham could makes waves at the end of the transfer window.
That’s the hope, but the Spanish newspaper also say the new stadium could be like crossing a desert for Tottenham… without any reinforcements.
When European newspapers are making infographics to show how out of the ordinary Tottenham’s lack of spending is, compared to other successful clubs, it’s obvious that something probably needs to give.
