It happens all the time, doesn’t it. A player leaves his club seeking bigger glories, then his new side has a disappointing European campaign, and he ends up being the fool.
That seems to be the case of Philippe Coutinho this time. Along with Luis Suarez, the Brazilian midfielder got a bit of stick from Liverpool fans when Barcelona were eliminated from the Champions League this week.
The Spanish media will also take a while to overcome Barça’s 3-0 defeat to Roma, and now the Madrid press found a nice way to mock their rivals.
As Barcelona were hopeful they could get a treble this season, outlet Marca comes to say that one of their players could still achieve it.
Philippe Coutinho played the Champions League group stage for Liverpool, which would make him a champion in case the Reds reach the title.
Barcelona, on the other hand, can still get a double. They’re currently eleven points clear on top of the La Liga table, and are also facing Sevilla in the Copa del Rey final this weekend.
So although Liverpool fans could have a laugh at Coutinho and Barcelona being eliminated in such a surprising way, fact is that the Brazilian star could end the season with some decent silverware. He’s just another one who’s hoping the Reds can win the European trophy.
