Spanish newspaper AS earlier on Monday covered Alfonso Morata, father of Real Madrid striker Alvaro, and Juanma Lopez, the player’s agent, having a meeting at the Bernabeu.
The two men were photographed leaving their meeting, so there’s proof something is actually happening, and it’s some sort of progress in a process that has gone so stale it wouldn’t even make good toast.
AS made sure to point out that Manchester United and Real Madrid are still to agree on price, and Marca, with an article published a little later, ram that point home further.
It’s explained that Manchester United want to pay ‘around’ €70m, but that Real Madrid are looking for €90m.
That’s just the €20m difference.
Morata’s wish is to start preseason with Manchester United rather than Real Madrid, report Marca, but his current club are in absolutely no rush for a sale. The double Champions League winners won’t sell unless an offer arrives which ‘really’ satisfies them, because they didn’t want the player to leave in the first place.
The only reason a transfer is being considered, explain Marca, is the Morata’s desire to move elsewhere.
Unless Morata Sr and Lopez know where the Bernabeu bodies are buried, there’s little they can so to bridge that €20m gap, without the help of Manchester United.
