Reports in the Spanish media suggest Andre Gomes is close to signing for Real Madrid, and that could put Mateo Kovacic’s future in further doubt at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Liverpool were heavily linked to the Croatian midfielder before he eventually signed for Real Madrid in a €31m deal last summer, and Marca believe they’re ready to reignite their interest.
However, Kovacic is keen on staying at Real Madrid, and is ready to force himself into Zidane’s plans for next season. Real Madrid are open to listening to offers, as Zidane can’t guarantee playing time to everyone in the team.
Kovacic has even cut short his vacation to return to pre-season training, but it remains to be seen if can convince Zidane.
The Croatian would be an excellent option for a number of clubs. He only turned 22 years of age in May, is experienced, and very talented. Long term, it’s not even clear Gomes is going to be the better player, but Madrid are apparently willing to spend €60m, and ship Kovacic out.
