Barcelona’s Marc Bernal has ended up on Manchester United and Newcastle United’s transfer agenda.
That’s at least what Spanish journalist Moisés Llorens is reporting. He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to provide a short update on Manchester United and Newcastle United interest.
The 17-year-old graduated from Barcelona’s youth system and was a regular for their reserve team last season, making 36 appearances.
Hansi Flick promoted the youngster to the first team, and he’s made three appearances this season. The defensive midfielder’s Barcelona deal expires in 2026, and the journalist claims it includes a €20m release clause.
Despite Manchester United and Newcastle interest in triggering the teenager’s clause, the Catalan club have no plans to let him go. Llorens says ‘he’s staying’ at the Camp Nou.
The journalist adds the Blaugrana want to extend the Spain U17 international’s contract and will make his renewal official this week.
Towards the end of last month, Bernal suffered a serious knee injury and will miss most of this season.
It’s surprising both Manchester United and Newcastle have shown interest in a player who won’t return to the pitch for a long time. Bernal’s entourage may have used the Premier League duo to put pressure on Barca to secure a new contract.
