The stories about Emre Can’s departure from Liverpool to Juventus are getting carried away with themselves.
Over the weekend we covered an article from Mundo Deportivo, who out of the blue decided to say Liverpool can’t match the Old Lady’s salary offer for the midfielder.
Now checking the Italian press this afternoon, there are numerous websites covering a report from Il Giornale, saying that Can could move in the January window instead of waiting for the summer.
Il Giornale isn’t exactly the most covered newspaper in Italy, so we went to take a look, and it seems that the rumour has been exaggerated again.
The outlet brings a big article on Juventus’ squad, explaining all the options that manager Massimiliano Allegri has, including the moves the club is expected to make in the January window.
Literally in the last two lines of the article, they write ‘And Emre Can could arrive from the market in advance of June, when his contract with Liverpool will expire. All combined with physical condition, of course.’
That’s all they have to say, with no details why Can would leave the Premier League side, where he still has a Champions League knock-out stage to play, something he couldn’t to if moving to Italy now.
Maybe the local press is too excited that a club will snap up a player from the Premier League for a change. That shouldn’t be a reason for any bottom line to become a full story, even because the big local papers have been making it clear that Can isn’t a done deal yet.
In Europe it’s clear they feel Can is slipping away from Liverpool and the longer he goes without renewing his contract, the more weight that’ll have behind it.
