The Spanish press doesn’t sound very optimistic about West Ham United’s possible attempt to sign the Atletico Madrid right-back Santiago Arias.

The news first came out in the English press this week, saying the Hammers would be interested in getting the player in the January transfer window.

Outlet Mundo Deportivo covers the story acknowledging that the player hasn’t been having much prominence for the Colchoneros, but it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have a future at the club.

It’s also stated that West Ham manager ‘Manuel Pellegrini likes him a lot’.

The newspaper claims that now that Arias has returned from the international break, he should have another chance to start under Diego Simeone in the next La Liga fixture.

It’s said that the player is ‘motivated’ to prove himself at the club, as he always knew it wouldn’t be easy to have a spot in the team, and doesn’t have ‘the minimum intention’ of leaving Atletico Madrid so soon.

That probably makes the task to sign him a lot harder for West Ham United, especially if they do try to make the purchase in the January window.
