Turkish club Besiktas are targeting the signing of John Obi Mikel from Chelsea, reports A Spor.

Besiktas’ board wants to sign a midfielder in the January transfer window as they only have 3 fit midfielders, and they believe signing an experienced midfielder will help both domestically and in Europe.

A Spor, a Turkish TV Channel, reports that Chelsea’s Obi Mikel has emerged as a leading candidate, and add that Besiktas will move if their manager Senol Gunes gives positive feed back about the Nigerian international.

The 29-year old is yet to feature for Antonio Conte this season and there appears to be something of a distant relationship between manager and player. After a long stay, it would appear that now is the right time for Mikel to leave Chelsea and try his look elsewhere.

It’s unlikely Besiktas will be the only interested club, if their manager gives approval to the transfer idea, and Mikel should have at least a couple of reasonable options during the January transfer window.
