Manchester United star Bastian Schweinsteiger has been strongly linked with a move to MLS, after Jose Mourinho has made it quite clear that he doesn’t see him playing a part.

According to German newspaper Bild, Schweinsteiger was asked to empty his locker, and hasn’t been training even with the reserves.

It’s likely the former Bayern Munich star will be switching clubs soon, but he’s made it clear he won’t be playing for another European club.

MLS commissioner Don Garber had earlier confirmed his desire to bring Schweinsteiger to the United States, and has reiterated his wish to German magazine Kicker (via Bild).

He said: “We would welcome Bastian with open arms. He would be a leader for our many young players.”

Garber insists they’re keeping close tabs on Schweinsteiger, and suggested that he is an ‘old friend’.

He said: “Of course, we follow closely what happens with Bastian. He an old friend in the United States.

“Against the US team he played in the 2014 World Cup, and he also played with Bayern Munich in an All Star game in 2014.”

Garber concluded by saying the German legend would fit in perfectly in the MLS, where the likes of Steven Gerrard, Andrea Pirlo and Frank Lampard are already playing.

It’s reported MLS side FC Dallas are keen on Schweinsteiger, but no deal is expected before February. Bild say there are also talks of a resolution between Manchester United and the 32-year-old, but the Premier League side might have to pay compensation of €16.8m.

Schweinsteiger reportedly earns €10m/season at Manchester United and has a contract until  2018.
