While the English media are trying to push the idea that Manchester United are desperate to sign Rasmus Højlund this summer, it’s all been a bit more quieter in Italy.
Not because they don’t believe the interest is there, but there just hasn’t been that much fanfare about it of late.
However, Corriere di Bergamo change that a bit on Tuesday, publishing a large article in their print edition, giving their slant on what is being said on these shores.
They pick up on the claims in England that a new offer of €46m has been made by Manchester United, but they point out immediately that Atalanta ‘will refuse this offer’.
However, this distance of €14m between the offer and the €60m asking price ‘is really thin’, and with Juventus recently showing their interest, we could be witnessing the beginning of some sort of auction for the Dane.
The belief is this gap could be filled ‘in a couple of Sundays’, and it now ‘seems inevitable’ that Højlund will be sold come the end of the summer.
Manchester United, despite interest from elsewhere, ‘will not let go’, and are ‘willing to do anything’ to ensure they get their hands on a player described here as the ‘Danish Haaland’.
We’ll see about that last part, since Højlund has a long way to go to reach the heights of the Norwegian superstar, but it seems that, from Bergamo’s end, they are expecting some new offers from Turin (if they sell Dusan Vlahovic) and Old Trafford in the near future.
