Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has offered himself to Barcelona as they look for an alternative to Georginio Wijnaldum.
That’s according to Sport, who say the Catalan giants aren’t interested in the Dutchman at this moment in time.
The newspaper reports that Wijnaldum’s surprise move to Paris Saint Germain has forced Barça to keep ‘scouring the market’ for a different midfielder.
That is something that both clubs and representatives of players who could fit the bill are aware of, and Barcelona have already received several offers.
One of the ‘most prominent’ his that of Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek, who would be ‘delighted’ to join Ronald Koeman’s side.
His entourage have told Barcelona that the player would be ‘seduced’ at the opportunity to play for the club, even if it had to be on loan.
He is not happy with his role at Manchester United and is looking for an ‘immediate change of scenery’ this summer.
Barcelona are yet to give a ‘formal response’ to his offers, but their idea is to look at a different profile as they are keen to strengthen the defensive capacity of the team.
Sport point out, however, that Van de Beek has long been linked to Barcelona, and last summer, they tried to block a move elsewhere in case they decided to go for him.
That was because he was in negotiations with Real Madrid and ultimately failed as he made the move to Manchester United.
That switch has not worked out so far, and now it seems he is trying to engineer a move elsewhere, with Barcelona at the top of his list.
