Manchester United will turn their attention to either Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana or Cristian Romero if they can’t get Jules Koundé from Sevilla this summer.
That’s according to Grand Hotel Calciomercato, the new website for Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio.
They explain that Manchester United are already working on securing a new central defender ahead of the summer transfer window.
Their number one target is Koundé, and they have already been in touch with Sevilla to ask their conditions for a transfer.
Koundé is their number one target, but if they can’t get him, they will turn their attention to alternatives, and they are Fofana and Romero.
Fofana has become a key player for Leicester this season after arriving in a €35m deal in the summer, with a series of impressive performance earning him rave reviews from all corners.
That has put him in Manchester United’s crosshairs, and they were linked with a potential big-money move earlier this year.
Romero, meanwhile, has been impressing for Atalanta and, like Fofana, fits the profile of a ‘young defender’ that Manchester United are looking for.
Whether either side would sell this summer isn’t known, but it’s easy to imagine Leicester wouldn’t be keen on a sale and would demand a top price as they did for Harry Maguire.
That is something United are likely aware of, hence their determination to focus on Koundé and bring his price down first.
