Manchester United made an effort to sign Red Bull Salzburg star Karim Adeyemi, according to claims from Germany.

The 20-year-old has been in fine form for the Austrian club this season, managing 21 goals and registering seven assists in all competitions.

His displays and impressive statistics have caught the attention of several clubs including Manchester United. However, Borussia Dortmund is set to be the striker’s next destination.

Last week, BVB chief Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed his side’s interest to acquire the Germany international’s services.

“If he came, we would try to do it without a release clause. But I will not give a water level report. We’re not under any pressure. I think the player has more or less conveyed the feeling that he wants to join BVB. We have to manage that somehow,” Watzke told 19:09 – der schwarzgelbe Talk, relayed by Ruhr Nachrichten.

Despite the Bundesliga side confirming their interest and various reports indicating that they will be Adeyemi’s next destination, Manchester United ‘tried to hijack’ Dortmund’s deal.

That’s according to Sport1 chief reporter Patrick Berger, who took to Twitter to make these claims. He states the player ‘turned down a top offer’ of worth £150,000 per week.

Berger further goes on to add Adeyemi is, however, all set to join Borussia Dortmund, with whom he will sign a five-year contract in the coming days.
