With Roma on a good run of form and Edin Dzeko scoring goals for fun, the rumours taking Manchester United’s Memphis Depay to the Serie A club have been rather quiet.
However, Mohamed Salah’s recent injury, which is likely to see him miss this weekend’s derby against rivals Lazio, has brought them crashing back, with Corriere dello Sport reporting them.
The Italian newspaper go with the headline “Depay is close”, suggesting that a deal for the Dutch winger could be on the cards for January.
However, the article relays much of the same information that has previously been touted, with a loan with the view to buy the likeliest option were any deal to be made between the two sides.
This is, of course, unless José Mourinho and co. find someone who would be willing to pay a high price for the former PSV star, but with very little game time under his belt this season and not exactly impressing when he’s come on, that seems unlikely.
Depay has only been on the pitch for 134 minutes so far this season, with only 20 of those coming in the Premier League, all off the bench, and the fact he wasn’t even on the bench for the EFL cup tie against West Ham says a lot about where the player is in Mourinho’s plans.
With this in mind, an exit this January does seem very likely, but will it be to Roma? They certainly wouldn’t be a bad destination.
