The Italian media love to plonk a percentage chance on a transfer and then try to justify why they’ve come to that figure.

Il Milanista have gone through all the players AC Milan are being linked with for the January window and decided that Marcus Rashford arriving from Manchester United is one of the likeliest pieces of business for them.

The percentage chance for that deal is put at 60%, and the reason for such confidence is because Rashford is thought to be keen on the deal and it’s believed – widely by the Italian media – that there’s a deal there to be done on the wage balance.

Pulling the chances down would be competition from elsewhere. Whilst Borussia Dortmund interest has now been largely dismissed, Juventus are being pulled into the periphery of the rumour.

Another difficulty is the type of loan. One with a purchase option presents the problems of having to agree that amount and also what Rashford would earn from next season onwards.

A straight loan with no purchase option would be much easier to complete this month.

Should Rashford swap Manchester United for AC Milan then he won’t escape press scrutiny, although it may be a little different.

The Italian pundit thought to be most critical of players, often in wild and outlandish ways, is Antonio Cassano.

However, he seems quite keen on Rashford even if he doubts a deal will happen.

TuttoJuve quote Cassano as saying: “We’re talking about a fantastic player, he drives me crazy. Not three years ago, five years ago or ten years ago, but a year and a half ago he finished the season with 28 goals scored as a winger. We’re talking about a fantastic player. Something broke there at Manchester United, first with Ten Hag and now especially with Amorim.

“The problem is that he earns €12m a season. Who can afford a sum like that in Italy? No one can afford it in Italy. He would be fantastic for both Milan and Juventus, but I don’t think he can get to our league.”
