Manchester United are one of the clubs who’ve been impressed with Enzo Fernandez’s displays at the World Cup, but they should know it won’t be easy to take him from Benfica.

Following the midfielder’s great performance and beautiful goal against Mexico at the weekend, several Portuguese newspapers today feature stories about his future.

A Bola, Jornal de Notícias and Record all come up with a list of clubs who want Fernandez, and all of those lists include Manchester United.

The midfielder is protected by a €120m release clause, and the first two outlets make it clear that Benfica will not let him leave for less than that.

Record also point out that the Eagles currently prioritise their ‘sporting project’, so this clause is what stops him from leaving the club in January.

Benfica only paid €12m to sign Fernandez from River Plate in July. His market value had been going up like an arrow in the past few months because of his performances in the Champions League, and the World Cup is only confirming that now.

Manchester United will need to be aware that besides his big price, there’s also heavy competition for the player, as other Premier League clubs have been watching him as well.
