A year ago, Philippe Coutinho left Liverpool and made a switch to Barcelona and in the process became the most expensive signing in the club’s history (€120m fixed plus €40m variables).

The Brazil international’s last league start was against Villarreal in the first week of December and he’s two more starts since then, one against Tottenham Hotspur in the inconsequential Champions League tie and the other in the Copa del Rey defeat against Levante two days ago.

Ernesto Valverde prefers Ousmane Dembele ahead of him in the front three, meaning the ex-Inter Milan man has limited opportunities, and this has alerted Manchester United, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Saturday’s edition of the Catalan newspaper claims the Reds Devils ‘tempt’ the 26-year-old and have already knocked on his door. In addition to this, they have already contacted his agent to ask about the player’s current situation at the club.

The 20-time English champions have already communicated to the agent that they would be ‘very interested’ in signing Coutinho.

It’s claimed that despite unhappiness due to limited playing time, the former Anfield star has no plans to leave Barca in January as he doesn’t want to give up on his dream of making his mark at Barca.

In addition to this, his second daughter was born in Barcelona, while he and his family are content with the life in Spain.

Mundo mentions that if Coutinho’s situation at the club doesn’t change before the end of the season, he could listen to the offers as United are going strong for him.

It looks like there isn’t much to this rumour, which initially originated in England after Caught Offside reported six days ago that United have contacted Barca to ask about Coutinho.

Calciomercato has another theory and they believe the European giants would be willing to sell Coutinho and use those funds to bring Neymar back to the club. The reports of the latter returning to Camp Nou have been quashed by his father.

The Italian website further mentions United’s interest and claims Valverde’s side would sanction the sale, if the offer was right.

Mundo Deportivo seem to have picked it up just so they can talk about Coutinho’s current situation, and insist he doesn’t want to leave.
