Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport has a long piece on the future of River Plate star Julian Alvarez. And despite talking about the interest from Serie A sides in the striker, they just can’t ignore Manchester United’s efforts to sign him.
In the past few days, there’s been several reports regarding the Red Devils’ meeting with agent Fernando Hidalgo, which apparently happened on Monday night following the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Now Gazzetta claims to have learned what happened in that conversation.
They say that Manchester United told the agent they like Alvarez ‘a lot’ and can afford the price of his release clause. However, the club will take a pause because they must sort Anthony Martial’s situation first.
The Frenchman is said to be heading for the exit door at Old Trafford, with Sevilla being those closest to finding a deal for his transfer. However, that hasn’t been defined yet, and the Red Devils are only bringing in a new attacker if another goes out.
Gazzetta say Alvarez has a release clause which, added to taxes, will reach €25m. And while Manchester United said they can pay it, Italian clubs would still have difficulties to match that, so that’s definitely another step forward for the Premier League side.
