Manchester United’s ears may have been burning today as Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong refused to commit his future to the club.

Kicker cover comments from the defender today which should interest those in charge at Manchester United after they were linked with a move once again.

A report earlier today indicated that Manchester United had initiated contact to try and sign Frimpong in the summer, as they look to overhaul the squad once again.

The Dutchman is a long-term target for the club and has been regularly linked over the last two years, particularly since Erik ten Hag was appointed as manager.

He’s one of the rising stars of Europe after shining for Bayer Leverkusen since his arrival in January 2021 and has enjoyed a particularly stellar rise since Xabi Alonso took charge, with a record of 12 goals and 11 assists in 36 games this season and 23 goals and 31 assists in 131 games in total for the club.

A growing list of Premier League clubs are believed to be looking at a move this summer, including Manchester United, who the report claimed had already made some sort of contact.

And that led to Frimpong being questioned today, when he gave a non-committal response that surely won’t go unnoticed back at Old Trafford.

“I’m in Leverkusen at the moment,” he said.

“It’s an exciting season. My whole focus is on that. I’m not worried about whether I stay or things like that.”

The German media are taking that a sign he’s very much open to a transfer in the summer.
