Talks between Manchester United and Barcelona defender Sergiño Dest ‘have intensified’ in the last few hours and the player is closer to agreeing to the move.
That’s according to Sport, who say Dest is becoming ‘increasingly clear’ that he needs to leave the Camp Nou this summer.
The newspaper reports that the player doesn’t particularly want to leave Barcelona but is getting the message being sent to him by Xavi and co that he isn’t wanted.
Thus, his entourage have ‘started to move’ and Manchester United, sensing an opportunity, have ‘intensified’ their talks with him in the last few hours.
Erik ten Hag is a ‘great advocate’ for the signing as he knows the player from their time together at Ajax, and the manager believes he can be an important part of his squad.
He is also a young player with plenty of room for growth, something Manchester United want to focus on moving forwards.
Barcelona, despite being in desperate need to sell players, will not let the American leave for less than €20m given his age and potential, but they are open to a deal.
Whether Manchester United will match their demands remains to be seen but the interest is there, talks are well underway and the deal already has the approval of Ten Hag.
