Even after it was clear that Ousmane Dembélé would be staying at Barcelona for the rest of the season, Manchester United continued to be linked.

For example, back in February, it was said that the Red Devils had ‘already talked figures’ with the Frenchman’s agent regarding a summer transfer, although no official offer appears to have been made.

That’s something Manchester United would be allowed to do, since Dembélé’s contract with the La Liga side expires in the summer, but the problem for all the interested sides, Old Trafford residents included, is that the winger appears happy again.

The arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang appears to have had a big part to play in all this, which is perhaps why the Catalans wanted to Gabon international in the first place, and Xavi appears intent on convincing him to stay.

The 24-year-old has picked up a goal and seven assists in his last five league games for Barcelona, which is why the club ‘haven’t said their last word’ regarding a renewal.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who explain that despite him having an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona are ‘preparing a new offensive’ to get him to sign a new contract.

There’s still interest from abroad too, as they point out that English clubs, like Tottenham, Newcastle and Manchester United are ‘still there lying in wait’.

While he’s enjoying this new run of form, it’s also pointed out it will ‘take a lot more than that’ to get him to stay, which leaves the door open for any other club to give him a fresh start.
