Lisandro Martínez has scored two goals for Manchester United since joining them from Ajax in July 2022 and the second one came in the Red Devils’ 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
The centre-back opened the scoring for Manchester United in the 52nd minute before Cody Gakpo scored the equaliser seven minutes later.
Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the lead from the penalty spot in the 70th minute, but Amad Diallo’s strike in the final quarter helped Manchester United pick up a point.
As explained by Olé, Martínez’s girlfriend Muri López Benítez had a ‘premonition’ the 26-year-old would score against Liverpool. The Argentina international dedicated the goal to his partner, who is pregnant.
The outlet have also shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation between the couple, where ahead of the match Muri López Benítez shared an AI picture to show Martínez celebrating, with a message ‘I took a photo of you with the AI shouting your goal in Liverpool’.
She was right as the World Cup winner got his name on the scoresheet against the Reds, with him explaining afterwards the team approached the match with a whole new mentality.
Prior to Martínez’s strike yesterday, Manchester United last scored at Anfield in December 2018.
