A couple of months ago, there had been many reports from the Brazilian media regarding Botafogo’s interest in Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani.
Those rumours basically disappeared, and UOL now comes up with an explanation for it.
Journalist Bruno Andrade writes that following the first talks with the striker’s brother and agent Walter Guglielmone, the Rio de Janeiro side had placed an official offer to sign the player in June.
Since Cavani is leaving Manchester United for free, Botafogo put on the table a contract of two years with an option for a further one, which had a salary close to the demands made by the player.
Guglielmone, however, disappeared and never responded to the offer.
That bothered the Brazilian club, especially because that had already happened when Benfica and Gremio tried to sign the Uruguayan.
UOL writes that Cavani, therefore, is now ‘ruled out’ by Botafogo, who are going for other targets instead.
