Jim Ratcliffe’s involvement with Manchester United hasn’t even been confirmed yet, but there’s already, and inevitably, been claims Paul Mitchell will be given a senior role at the club.
Both men are from the Manchester area, and they’ve worked together before, so all the pieces fit neatly.
Mundo Deportivo aren’t waiting for anything as boring as confirmation, and they already describe Mitchell as Manchester United’s ‘sport director’.
The reason for this is an article about him going to watch Mason Greenwood in action for Getafe. The Red Devils youth product was sent to the Spanish club on loan after a protracted process followed audio and video of an, at the time, alleged assault on his partner.
Greenwood arrived at the Spanish club with huge fanfare, as Getafe not only looked to ignore any negatives but instead thrive on the controversy it brought.
The 22-year-old has made nine appearances in total, scoring three goals and adding two assists.
Mundo Deportivo and Marca both have articles, and the gist is that Mitchell was ‘impressed’ by what he saw.
What that means in concrete terms is unclear, but the inference is crystal.
That said, Mitchell doesn’t even work for Manchester United officially so there’s a long way to go in this story.
