Manchester United interest in David Brooks is rather more serious than widely assumed, Sport Witness has been informed, and there could even be developments relatively quickly.
The Bournemouth player has been suggested in various reports as an alternative to Jadon Sancho for the Premier League club. And whilst he may not waltz into the starting eleven quite as easily, the idea has gone further than the initial stage, and it’s clear a deal for the 23 year old would be much easier to complete than one for the England international.
Borussia Dortmund have insisted the deadline for a Sancho exit has passed, and they’ve spoken to the media so often about the situation that selling the former Manchester City player now would damage their credibility.
That doesn’t completely rule out the idea, but it’s clearly an uphill battle for Manchester United.
Juventus’ Douglas Costa has also been presented as an alternative, yet those claims have been carried so frequently in the Turin media, specifically by Tuttosport, that it feels a routine link to make.
Manchester United aren’t currently being strongly linked to players by the media outside of England, and Brooks interest could be the reason for that.
After missing the majority of the season due to ankle surgery, the Wales international returned to action in June. Following the football lockdown, he was able to make nine Premier League appearances, scoring one goal against Manchester City.
The previous season he made 30 appearances in the league, scoring seven times and making five assists.
