Manchester United officials reportedly made a trip to the north of Portugal on Sunday so they could watch Sporting’s away tie against Arouca.

The scouting mission is reported by Portuguese newspaper A Bola today, as they take claims from the past to say the emissaries could be keeping an eye on Gerson Martins and William Carvalho.

Both of them had a quite average game. As always, Martins was the one trying to speed up Sporting’s attacking plays, but couldn’t create much danger to Arouca. Carvalho had a safe game in the defensive midfield and didn’t do much more than that.

CapturarArouca opened the score with Mateus, as Sporting’s comeback goals were scored by Bruno César and Alan Ruíz. César was picked as the Man of the Match due to the intensity he gave to the Lions’ midfield.

Manchester United haven’t been strongly linked to Sporting or Arouca player’s lately. The claims taken by A Bola are a little old, and seem to have been included just to pick a couple of talents who the Red Devils could be watching.

Gelson Martins has been monitored for a long time, but his ups and downs haven’t been so convincing for Manchester United to make an attempt to sign him so soon, especially because of his high price. Carvalho, on the other hand, is on Sporting’s list of sales to be made in the next transfer market.
