Manchester United have identified FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa as the target to replace André Onana.
That’s according to Monday’s edition of Correio da Manhã, and they cover the Red Devils’ interest in Costa. Their title says he’s the ‘firm’ candidate for Manchester United for next season.
Onana is in his second season at Old Trafford and his errors have regularly cost Ruben Amorim’s side. He kept 10 clean sheets and conceded 65 goals from 45 games so far this season.
The Premier League club could be looking to replace the Cameroon international with Costa next season. The newspaper states Manchester United have already sent an official to follow the 25-year-old live in action in the Dragons’ 2-1 win over Famalicão on Friday.
Recent claims in the UK have stated Manchester City are willing to offer €58m for Costa.
Correio da Manhã relay that and add Porto president André Villas-Boas is open to a sale for big money. He is hopeful the player’s price could rise because of the interest shown by the two Manchester clubs.
Costa has a €75m clause and the report claims Villas-Boas is willing to sanction his sale for a fee close to his clause. The newspaper also adds Porto will only sanction his sale after the summer’s Club World Cup.
The entire report is based on a Manchester United scout following the goalkeeper. This is not new and it’s to be noted they have regularly followed Porto players over the past few years.
